1.  Keep the “self talk” on a positive, rather than negative level. All of us have a running monologue playing in our heads almost all of the time, whether we tune into it consciously or not.  You know what I mean, don’t you? … that little voice in your head, saying, “Stupid! What did you say that for?” Are you with me? It doesn’t take much to get this self talk churning in our brains.  And if you are not careful, this self talk can be filled with many negative messages that are reinforced by TV, radio, ads, newspapers, and even overhearing what other people say to each other.

Negative thoughts zap our mind and body of energy and block you from attracting self confidence and self esteem into our lives.  Take control and change this process in your life by using your self talk to communicate with yourself in a positive manner, as often as you can.

For example, one my favorite things to say to myself is “I like myself, I like myself, I like myself”.  Now before you think it is cheesy, just try it.  I bet that if you go to the mirror right now and repeat out loud “I like myself!” 50 times, it will be impossible to keep from smiling.

2.  Always strive to be at your very best, both in behavior and appearance. You will be shocked at just how much more confidence you can have just by taking time to look your best.  When you are wearing attractive clothes, are well groomed, and live in a clean house, you can’t help but feel better about yourself.  So, get going…  Put on your nice clothes, get the car washed, style that hair!  A hairdresser once told me “Act like every day is show time!”

Increase your self-esteem even more by expressing gratitude for what you are, how you look, and what you are doing.  Say “thank you” to yourself for everything you see, everyone you meet, and each smile that you receive.

3.  Stand tall. How you stand definitely sends out a message to the world, and in turn, you will feel that same message internally.  There is even scientific proof that shows how posture affects our mood.  Slouching produces a down-low mood.  Standing tall and upright–even when you don’t feel like it and even if you’re a shrimp like me–will actually lift your mood.  Help build up your self confidence by pulling back those shoulders, stopping that slouch, and walking proud.  Oh, and a smile won’t hurt either!
